POSITION PAPER
Reza Adam
Representative of
Rwanda
UNHRC Committee
Main
Theme: Changing Global Paradigm On HIV
To
change the global paradigm on HIV, we reviewed the history of our country on
HIV. The HIV epidemic began when Rwanda's tragedy of Genocida at 1994, caused
by the conflicts between Hutu and Tutsi tribes. Rwanda has a population of very
few residents, who were mostly positive contracted the HIV/AIDS virus. Stigma
and discrimination are really harming the mental people affected by HIV/AIDS,
people will always assume that those who contracted is very despicable and
worse. This makes the termination for the society by the impact of stigma and
discrimination on HIV/AIDS. We, as a country with the majority infected by
HIV/AIDS, are very pro to change the global paradigm regarding the disabled,
HIV AIDS, because the majority of our population positively infected by AIDS
are extremely aggrieved thereby. Indirectly, the bad stigma and discrimination
that inhibits the healing process of the people, they will not be compelled to
perform a good action, they will always think that they will not be accepted in
sosialitas, and finally they prefer to keep silent, and resigned as well as sincere
with all that is.
HIV/AIDS in Rwanda began to spread precisely after the
events of Genocida in 1994. From this conflict a lot happens everywhere, even
rape is not indiscriminate.
“We did not need to
experience genocide to become a better people. It simply should never have
happened. No country, in Africa or anywhere else, ever needs to become another
Rwanda. But if a people’s choices are not informed by historical clarity, the
danger is ever present.”
(Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda)
In
our opinion, the proper resolution for the UNHRC to this is by holding:
1. Campaign
about humanity and human rights. That they respect each other, and there is no
bad stigma and discrimination again.
2. Campaign
about the transmission of HIV/AIDS. To hang for those who do not know how the
spread of this virus, or even that assumes that any contact can pass.
3. As
well as the implementation of both the campaign and the sequel in order to keep
running continuously.
